World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September offers businesses an opportunity to engage with employees to increase understanding about suicide, challenge stigma and signpost to support.

One in five adults will have suicidal thoughts at some point in their life. But unfortunately, it continues to be a heavily stigmatised topic. The stigma stops people from talking about it and obscures the fact that suicide can be preventable.

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) on 10th September offers businesses an opportunity to engage with employees on the subject. It is a chance to:

  • increase understanding about suicide
  • challenge stigma
  • signpost to support and
  • provide people with the confidence to spot warning signs and have intervening conversations.

To help your business on its journey, the CMHA is sharing a short paper to help inform and support your business to sensitively mark World Suicide Prevention Day. This includes ideas for how your business can mark the day, as well as signposts to useful resources.
